Suzanne Rae
Designer: Suzanne Rae Pelaez
Suzanne Rae is a women’s wear line inspired
by the modern woman who contributes to the constant redefinition of what is female and what is feminine. The line explores
the multiple dualities and juxtapositions of women today and interprets these abstract ideas into tangible garments.
As each spring and fall collection are realized, they are taken from different inspirations. For example, the debut
line, spring summer 2008, was inspired by the boudoir. The boudoir was originally intended as a room for thought and
leisure for women—a place to improve the mind. The collection takes the ideas of the boudoir, both positive and negative
as well as past and present, by using the ideas of leisure and undergarments (of both women and men) in contrast to it’s
ready to wear structure. As a result, the collection exhibits an overall sense of ease and femininity. The line
between under- and outer-garments is blurred, thus creating a most comfortable sense of liberation and independence.
Suzanne
Rae Pelaez lives and designs out of Brooklyn. After a professional career that began in the art gallery scene in New York
and eventually led to the design ateliers of Costume National in Milan and Morgane LeFay in New York, Suzanne was ultimately
determined to bring her dream of a namesake fashion line to fruition.
Suzanne graduated from Parson School of
Design and also holds an economics degree from Bryn Mawr College.
